quoteable"It isn't given to us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world. They will not be cured by our most efficacious drugs or slain with our sharpest swords." — Francis Scott Fitzgerald

Maria had kittens and string. Well, this morning, I bring you Cayucas and Ducks, and news from my favorite place to drink tea, the Kasbah. Take that, Maria. Take your pick: The lovely S.M. Hutchins is the only person I have ever heard of who impulse bought ducks, and I am so glad…Read the Rest

Lately, I’ve been crazy busy working with some of the most fabulous people – while this has kept me from writing here as often as I’d like, I just can’t say no to a good project. One of these was working with the amazing Historical Mystery novelist, Kathy Owen, on her new site! (Check it…Read the Rest

I have had the best time reading all the twists and turns the tale The Octopus Knows has taken since it first started in April. I am saddened to say, the last chapter has been written…but beyond delighted with the final chapter, which was posted today by the talented and amazing Mental Skillness. I…Read the Rest

About two weeks ago, we had a storm. It was dark, rainy, and catastrophe-ridden. Well, at least, for a certain giant magnolia tree in my front yard, it was catastrophe-ridden. The tree, which is host to some sort of bizarre fig vine (a story for another post) just couldn’t handle the weather. It dropped a…Read the Rest

For some reason today I woke up thinking about the Turkish poet, Orhan Veli Kanik. (Random, I know. ) I’m fascinated by Orhan Veli, and I’ve always found his spartan phrasing full of emotion. He died young, at 36, after falling in a ditch after drinking. (Apparently, he was quite a drinker. I’m not judgin’).…Read the Rest

Have you been keeping up with the Wikirandom Writer’s Challenge? There have been a number of great contests since the original one here, in February, and I’m working on a comprehensive list of links for you… But this month’s contest is over at Elaine Smother’s blog, and the prompt is…awesome. So – go and…Read the Rest

Back in high school, (which was a long long time ago — trust me) my favorite creative writing teacher once assigned my entire class to collaborate on a novel. We named it “Beyond Milk” and it was likely one of the strangest stories ever written. But writing it was immensely fun. So, a few of…Read the Rest

My pal, the very cool Mike Schulenberg (who recently reviewed Twilight here on my blog) has tagged me in the writing game, “The Lucky 7 Meme.” Thanks Mike! These are the rules: 1. Go to page 77 of your current MS/WIP 2. Go to line 7 3. Copy down the next 7 lines, sentences, or paragraphs,…Read the Rest
