Today I was nominated by Helen McMullin for the Versatile Blogger Award. Thank you so much, Helen!

If you haven’t already, you should check out her amazing blog, Foofaraws From Helen. She has written some very entertaining articles lately about such wonderful stuff as elephants sneezing and the extracurricular activities of ravens.
One of the rules of the Versatile Blogger Award Nomination is that I now need to share 7 completely random pieces of information about myself. In no particular order:
1) I’m no poetry buff, but I love the Turkish poet, Orhan Veli. There is an amazing collection of his translated works here. He had a knack for stating things in the most direct, unadorned way, and making them sound really beautiful. I highly recommend “Life is like this,” and “This world is just to drive a man crazy.”
2) In high school, I once bought a pair of red glitter Doc Martins. I was never able to wear them, because just taking them out of the box made me collapse in laughter.
3) Whenever I hear the word “Dilettante” I think of pickled debutantes.

4) There is only one brand of gummy bears worth eating in my world. They are Haribo. They are best when they are stale.
5) I think handlebar moustaches are the cat’s meow. If I were a guy, I would totally have one. Since I can’t have one, I will admire them on others and covet moustache themed giftware.
6) I am obsessed with office supplies. Recently, I fell in love with Palomino Blackwing pencils, but I can’t find a justification for spending $20 on a pack of pencils. If you can think of one, I’d love to hear it, as those pencils look like they’d be life-changing.
7) I once cooked dinner for James Garner. He was as lovely in person as he seems in the movies.
There. That wasn’t so bad.
Now onto the next rule of the Versatile Blogger Award: to nominate 15 fellow bloggers for the award. I hereby nominate the very fabulous:

Thanks for this award, Laird!
You’ve got a great set of random facts. I’ll be checking into one of the above works from Orhan Veli.
You’re welcome!
Thanks, sweetie! That means a LOT! Of course, now you’ve given me even MORE work! LOL. I’ll get on this in a few minutes, after I get some work that pays done first.
I had to laugh at the handlebar mustache comment because my husband, joking, every time he sees one on TV or something says, “I’m going to grow a handlebar mustache.” (He has a goatee and would never grow a mustache – he hates them)
And the office supply thing? Totally relate. That was my favorite part of getting ready for school – not picking out clothes but organizing my supplies. I’m in love right now with Precise V5 RT pens in extra fine.
April, I always loved starting a new school year because of the sweet sweet smell of brand new school supplies…to this day, going to a really good office supply store is like a mini-vacation for me. lol. (And Precise V5 pens are really great.)
Pickled debutantes–love it. I’m also obsessed with office supplies–I totally understand. I won’t write if it isn’t a gel pen.
Good post. I will be back.
thank you, Cora!
Is there anybody who *doesn’t* dig fresh office supplies? I feel like an alcoholic in a bar every time I walk into Staples!
Thanks for nominating me!
bwahahaha! You crack me up, Joe. And, you are welcome.
Wow, you cooked dinner for James Garner? How exciting! And I must say those Palomino Blackwing pencils look luxurious…replacement erasers in black, white, and pink, really?! I’m usually more addicted to pens, but those might tempt me into the world of graphite.
Thanks for the post, Laird!
I know – the erasers are what I think is so appealing about the pencil. lol…I don’t even really use pencils. But…those just look like they would improve one’s existence, don’t they? Thanks for stopping by, Alina!
